Your vessels are the physical backbone of the cellar: nothing can be pressed, transferred, blended or bottled without them. In WineOS a vessel carries its type, its real capacity and its status, and every litre that ever entered or left it stays in its history. This guide shows how to set them up and how to read them day to day.
What you will do
Register the tanks, barrels and other containers of the winery, read the content and history of a vessel, and start the next job directly from it.
Steps
- Open Cellar → Vessels and click New vessel. The code is assigned automatically.
- Enter the name your team already uses —
T-006,Barrel 12— and choose the type (tank, barrel, other). - Enter the capacity in litres. It must be a positive number, and it is what drives fill percentages, free space and over-capacity warnings.
- Choose the status, add notes if useful, and save.
- Click a vessel row to open it and read the header: type, status, capacity, current content and fill, plus the current LOTs in the vessel with their winemaking and volume.
- Scroll to Vessel history (LOT movements) to see, in order, every movement that changed the physical content: pressing output, transfers in and out, blends, bottling and losses.
- Use Quick actions (the ＋ button) to start work on the current content — a new operation, a new analysis or a new addition — with the LOT and the vessel already filled in.
- Place the vessel on the Tank Map to get the visual layout of the cellar; clicking a vessel there opens the same details drawer.
What WineOS updates
- The vessel appears in the vessels table with capacity, current content, fill percentage and its current LOTs, and becomes selectable in transfers, top-ups, blends, press batches, additions, analyses and bottling.
- It is counted in the dashboard containers figure and in the setup checklist.
- Vessel history and the LOT history are mirror images: the vessel view answers "what passed through this tank", the LOT view answers "where has this wine been".
- Nothing is recalculated from the vessel screen itself — the figures change when you save a pressing run, an operation, an addition or a bottling.
Important to know
A vessel can hold more than one LOT. In that case additions and transfers into the vessel are distributed proportionally per LOT. Quick actions are disabled on an empty vessel, because work in WineOS is always recorded against a LOT, not against a tank. And emptying a vessel deletes nothing: previous LOTs stay in its history and remain printable on the container monitoring sheet.
Practical example
A cellar with one 5,000 L stainless tank and twelve 330 L barrels is registered once, with real capacities. When the winemaker later moves wine into barrels, WineOS can propose exactly one barrel-full per destination and refuse a barrel that cannot take the volume, naming the litres still free.
